Going beyond the hyperbole: Defining project success

Defining project success
We have all heard it before. In project management books and literature, at seminars, symposia, and in professional certification classes, we are subjected to the mantra regarding the failure rate of software projects. It always goes something like this: “25 percent of all software projects fail!” or “80 percent of all software projects fail to meet schedule and cost objectives.” If you’ve spent any time in the field of software project management, you’ve heard this before.

After having heard this assertion countless times, an experienced software project manager could learn to doubt his accomplishments. The failure mantra and its implications have no place in software project management. The real issues behind failed software projects are quite complicated.

In this article, we won’t deny that software projects fail—they do fail, we are sure. They may even fail often. What we will assert, however, is an objective approach and definition of success in software projects.

Remote Classroom Learning

Live & Interactive - Providing the full classroom experience to any remote location

Overview
Our unique Remote Classroom approach leverages strategic technologies in order to provide a full classroom experience for all of our students from any location.  Training is delivered in the standard instructor-led training format as defined in the course outline on consecutive days.  Each class will consist of the same framework as the traditional Instructor Led Training (ILT) classes that you would normally take with New Horizons.  This framework will include the same highly qualified instructors, approved courseware and outstanding support that our students are accustomed to receiving from our centers.  Remote students will be able to hear the instructor's lecture and see the instructor's presentation, and demonstrations, as well as perform labs by remotely controlling the in-classroom student computer.  The instructor has the ability to take control of the student’s in-classroom computer if assistance is needed to assist them with any lab work.
